Earth Day

Every spring I take the time to teach students to take care of our Earth and our environment. Earth is a hard concept for preschoolers to understand and so I used the word, ground, grass and things children experience first hand to describe what planet or earth is.

Today I Filled the bookshelf with books about the Earth, recycling, saving resources, caring for the environment, garbage, and various habitats (forests, rivers, ponds).
I spiced up the Earth Day writing center, I added NEWSPAPER for students to write on and use to decorate their writing. It is a way for students to practice reusing something instead of throwing it away!
Each preschooler created their own garbage machine after talking about how garbage pollutes our earth and the importance of cleaning up after ourselves and not throwing trash on the ground. They are bringing their creations home and so ask them about what they created.
